The Dreamer

A journey for those ready to step into another world.

Japan has a culture alive with boundless imagination. We’ll co-create your perfect journey through Japan’s creative spirit — a deep dive into the stories, sounds, and scenes that shape its modern soul.

The Dreamer journey invites you to explore Japan through the vivid lens of its pop culture and modern myths. Wander beneath the glowing signs of Akihabara, where the night hums with pixel light and Blade Runner vibes. Share a moment in a jazz bar that reminds you of a Murakami novel, trace the footsteps of your favourite characters through streets that echo with the stories of old and new classics - each moment can become as animated, curious, and colourful as your imagination.

Each journey is tailored to you — these are just glimpses of what could be included.

Journey Highlights

Tokyo: where retro and contemporary meet

Tokyo offers more than just its well-known landmarks - it’s a city where pop culture reveals itself in both bright and quiet corners. Beyond the neon arcades and anime megastores of Akihabara or the fashion-forward streets of Harajuku, there are hidden gems to discover. Browse vintage manga in Ikebukuro’s tucked-away shops, sip cocktails inspired by authors in Shimokitazawa’s cosy bars, or explore museums and cafés that celebrate a gentler, nostalgic side of Japanese pop culture. Whether your passion lies in anime, J-pop, retro games, or the stories behind them, Tokyo invites you to experience its culture at your own pace, in all its lively and unexpected forms.

Find the extraordinary in the ordinary

Japan is dotted with places that feel lifted from a Studio Ghibli film — misty forests, quiet mountain towns, moss-covered shrines, and coastal villages humming with subtle magic. In Tomonoura, weathered harbours and timeless streets echo the world of Ponyo. At Dogo Onsen, one of Japan’s oldest hot springs, the warm waters and glowing lanterns evoke the bathhouse in Spirited Away. For a more literal touch of wonder, Ghibli Park in Aichi offers full-scale recreations of the worlds we’ve long dreamed of entering.

Niche paradise

Japan’s underground music and culture scenes quietly pulse beneath the surface, especially in cities like Osaka and Fukuoka. Intimate venues host live punk, experimental electronic, and underground idol shows, while record stores in Shibuya and Nakano offer everything from city pop to Japanese jazz fusion. Vintage shops and niche boutiques reflect the same alternative spirit, complemented by zines, noise shows, and artist-run galleries. Together, they form a diverse and ever-evolving cultural undercurrent waiting to be discovered.

A land of discoveries

From Universal Studios Japan in Osaka with its anime-themed attractions, to hunting for Pokémon manhole covers across Tohoku, and visiting Edo Wonderland Park, Japan offers playful ways to explore its culture. These experiences blend pop culture with travel, creating interactive, light-hearted moments. What makes them special is how naturally they sit alongside temples or narrow alleys that might have inspired a beloved novel, blending modern fun with timeless tradition.

One Piece pilgrimage

The One Piece statues scattered across Kumamoto offer a unique mix of fandom and local discovery. Part of the Kumamoto Revival Project, these life-sized bronze figures honour creator Eiichiro Oda’s hometown and support earthquake recovery. Each of the ten locations invites visitors to explore nearby highlights - like Kumamoto Castle, the acid lakes of Mt. Aso, and soothing hot springs - while sampling regional specialties like basashi, tonkotsu ramen, and fresh mountain produce. Many stops are near cosy cafés and traditional markets, making the journey a rich blend of culture and cuisine. Sanji would be delighted.
